Porter County Construction Standards Update

Description of this Website
The purpose of this website is to provide an update of the revisions to Porter County's Ordinance, No. 90-3, "General and Detailed Specifications for Roads and Streets, Sidewalks, Curbs, Drainage Structures and Other Miscellaneous Items", adopted by Porter County Board of Commissioners on February 5, 1990. This website will be updated throughout the course of the project.

Overview of Project
Porter County Ordinance No. 90-3 was adopted in 1990 and contains standards and specifications for the construction of public infrastructure in Porter County. Since its adoption, new construction techniques and land development philosophies have been developed. In 2008, the Porter County Board of Commissioners retained DLZ Indiana, LLC (DLZ) to update these construction standards and specifications. The project involves an analysis of existing standards, establishment of advisory committees and the modification of old construction standards and the preparation of new construction standards to meet these new construction techniques and land development philosophies. The basics of roadways, drainage, wastewater and utilities will be addressed as well as the requirements for roadway lighting, traffic control devices, sediment and erosion control, and low impact development (LID) practices. Input will be gathered from numerous stakeholders including: Porter County Planning Department, Building Department, Highway Department, Engineering Department, Soil and Water Conservation District, Surveyor's Office, Drainage Board, Plan Commission; Local Engineers and Surveyors involved in land development; Local Developers and Builders; Local Contractors; the Porter County Corridor Planning Consultant; Town and City Engineers from Neighboring Communities in Porter County; School Transportation Officials; County Safety Officials and Local Utilities (both public and private).
